Mr. Cosgrove was born January 18, 1954, in Somerville, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In December of 1979, Mr. Cosgrove received a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Loyola of Los Angeles Law School. While in law school, Mr. Cosgrove was named to the Dean's Honor List and the Saint Thomas More Law Society, and was a recipient of the 1979 and 1980 Loyola Honorary Scholarship Award, the American Jurisprudence Award in Torts, and the American Jurisprudence Award in Trusts and Wills. Mr. Cosgrove also served as law clerk for Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lawrence J. Rittenband and was Business and Managing Editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles International and Comparative Law Annual.
Mr. Cosgrove joined the Firm in 1980, and was elected an officer and director in 1986. His legal experience has principally involved the defense of product liability and general liability cases. He has tried numerous product liability cases involving a wide spectrum of claims. Mr. Cosgrove has also served as local trial counsel and national counsel in toxic tort cases and he has extensive experience in all aspects of appellate practice.
Mr. Cosgrove was admitted to the California Bar in 1980. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of California. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California, the Federal Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Wilshire Bar Association (Member, Board of Governors 1987-89), the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the Product Liability Advisory Council and the Society of Automotive Engineers. His Martindale-Hubbell rating is AV.
Mr. Cosgrove also serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
