Roy A. Goto is of counsel to the Firm. Since 1978 he has represented a wide variety of manufacturers in the automotive, chemical, motorcycle, pharmaceutical, and tire industries. He was also lead trial and appellate counsel in a case that changed California law when the State Court of Appeal held that service of process on Japanese defendants by registered mail does not comply with the Hague Service Convention. [Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. v. Superior Court, 200 Cal.App.3d 1476 (1988)].
Roy joined the firm in 2001. He has extensive experience in the defense of product liability and complex litigation cases. He has designed and maintained litigation support databases, and is national counsel in litigation involving Suzuki all-terrain vehicles and Yokohama tires. Roy has served as an arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court. He also has served as a mediator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Roy is a member of the State Bars of California (1978) and Hawaii (1977). He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Central District of California and the District of Hawaii. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles Country Bar Association, Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute. He graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968, served in the US. Army (Military Intelligence), and in 1972 received a Masters of Art degree from the University of Michigan. Roy received his law degree from Washington University School of Law.
